Last year, Ireland was the fifth biggest exporter of ice cream among EU countries to places outside the EU.
EU countries sent a total of 261 million kilograms of ice cream to non-EU countries, worth €1.04 billion. This was 5% more than in 2022, when they exported 249 million kilograms.
France was the top exporter, sending 52 million kilograms, which was 20% of all EU exports. It was followed by the Netherlands (35 million kg), Germany (29 million kg), Italy (28 million kg), and Ireland (24 million kg).
While EU countries exported lots of ice cream, they only imported 56 million kilograms from outside the EU, which was 8% less than in 2022.
The EU made a little less ice cream in 2023, producing 3.2 billion litres compared to 3.3 billion litres in 2022. Germany made the most ice cream, followed by France and Italy. Germany also had the cheapest ice cream, costing €1.80 per litre, while the most expensive ice cream was made in Austria, costing €7.70 per litre.
