Our mission here at News Bites (a monthly children’s newspaper) is to Engage, Inform, and Inspire by bringing news, STEM, sport and entertainment to young people in a language they understand and in a manner they can easily relate to.
NEWS BITES SEEKS TO ...
encourage children to read for a purpose – providing opportunities for them to engage with the world around them in a safe and secure manner – through the reporting of trustworthy (and agenda-free) news and feature writing.
develop a love of ‘reading for pleasure’.
nurture a love of current affairs, history, geography and STEM subjects through interesting and informative articles that speak directly to the children, and in a language they understand.
promote and inspire a feeling of pride in themselves, their community and their country, by highlighting positive news and focusing on positive role-models. If the young readers don’t have a newspaper to tell them about all the great work, volunteering, activism and good that is going on in the world today, where will they read it?
provide a safe medium for children to access information. With other magazines and newspapers for young readers full of advertising, and product promotion, News Bites remains ad-free – allowing the editorial team to operate with no motives but to engage, inform and inspire their readers.
create a safe and secure online platform through our website that provides a forum for independent thought, opinion, further reading, comprehension activities and multi-media extensions to the newspaper articles.
