STATEMENT: Babies have around 100 more bones than adults.

NEWS BITES SAYS: FACT!

Adults have 206 bones, but a new-born baby has 300! However, a baby’s bones are not like an adult’s – instead they are made of a strong and  ?exible material called cartilage. An example of where you might ?nd cartilage is at the top of your ears. This bendable cartilage allows the baby to stay comfortably curled up while growing in their mother’s womb for  nine months. As the baby grows in childhood and teenage years, the cartilage bones fuse together and begin hardening to form larger (adult) bones. This is why calcium is a really important chemical, as it helps the fusion process and helps makes your bones strong.
