A 16-year-old girl was named Prime Minister of Finland (a country in Northern Europe) for one day.
Aava Murto (main picture) was handed the role for the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, an annual event which recognises girls’ rights and the unique challenges they face around the world.
Ms Murto was invited to speak in front of national politicians. She challenged the popular opinion that boys are more interested and skilled than girls when it comes to technology.
She also spoke about how many young women fear being excluded and discriminated against, noting that 'nowhere on earth' has a society yet managed to achieve true gender equality.
‘Girls represent enormous potential,’ she said. ‘With our help, many issues can be resolved.’
